Microsoft Office Outlook - The messaging interface has returned an unknown error

I purchased 2 new Dell computers with Office 2007 Professional installed. We removed that software and replased it with Office 2003.
One computer was a replacement and the other is going to be used by a new employee who has not started yet.
Outlook 2003 seems to work until you try to reply to all on a email message, The both computers receive a message Microsoft Office Outlook - The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. restart office

esldmkeenan,

1. Register an important Outlook file. Go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 OLE32.DLL
Do the same for INETCOMM.DLL

2. Disable Outlook Addins.  Go to Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Addin Manager or COMM/Addins and disable the addins.

3. Check if an external program running in the background is interfering with Outlook. Check Firewall, antivirus, antispyware, antispam, and all Norton programs. Disable these programs one at a time.

5. Create a new Outlook profile.

5. Repair Outlook. With Outlook open, go to Help > Detect and Repair.

6. If no joy, reinstall Outlook.  Go to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Install/Uninstall.  A menu will pop allowing you to choose repair or reinstall.

ASKER

I reformated the drive and reloaded the applications. Thanks for responding.
esidmkeenan,

Glad reformating and reinstall OS fixed the problem for you. Creating a new Outlook profile would have fixed the problem that you described.
