Deploying SharePoint 2007: what are the supporting services required?

Hi experts,
I am looking at deploying SharePoint 2007, we currently have SharePoint 2000 deployed.  My question is, is it necessary to have SQL Server 2005, Exchange 2007, or Office 2007 deployed first? And if not, what would be the disadvantages of not doing it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

Are you going to upgrade from SharePoint 2000 to SharePoint 2007 or
remove  SharePoint 2000 and install SharePoint 2007
-----
Normally its not manditory to install these SQL Server 2005, Exchange 2007, or Office 2007 ....
If SQL Server 2005 is not there it will install the express edition by default,...
Exchange 2007 and Office 2007 areas per your requirement of developement and usage after sharepoint installed...

At this point I am thinking of doing a clean install.  And manually replicating the various webparts and documents over.  Or if revision control on the documents is required perhaps migrating these.  I'm unsure of the migration ramifications.  Generally speaking migration mechanisims are normally pretty ugly.  So that is a debate at the moment.

As to the other products, it sounds like installing SQL Server 2005 would be a good idea.  No point installing the Express edition.

Can I 'map' it to Exchange 2000 and later map it to Exchange 2007?  I realize I might not get the full functionality until I get to 2007 but Exchange update is going to be a major undertaking.  And I guess Office 2007 vs. 2003, I can do later, I just loose some of the new features?

Thanks!
