VCOM SystemSuite Firewall Causes System Pauses

The VCOM SystemSuite NetDefense Firewall is causing momentary annoying pauses on my PC. This is especially noticeable while playing videos and games. The pauses occur about every 2 seconds and last about a second. As soon as I turn off NetDefense the pauses stop, and then the videos and games run smoothly. When I activate the Windows Firewall the pauses also do not occur.  I'm using WinXP Home. How can I correct this behavior?
