Lan card detection

Hi Experts,

There is a laptop (win xp prof sp2). The problem is that only if the lan wire is plugged into the pc when it is booting, or if i scan for hardware changes in control panel, after plugging in the lan wire when windows is started, will the lan card be detected.

At times the lan card has to be removed and again detecting the card is very often a problem. Is there any way in which i can keep the adapter "always visible" in control panel (system properties), even if i start the pc without the lan card plugged in?

I dont know if this is possible but you could try going to connecting your lan card and then browsing to start\settings\network connections and select the propertiesof this connection. Check the 2nd last check box on the bottom of the page stating "Show icon in notification area when connected". This should disply a connection icon in the system tray even when the hardware is not connected.

You could just create a desktop icon to your system properties in control panel as an alternative also.

Rather than trying these steps I would advise looking at why the hardware cannot be detected by windows. Is it a hardware or drivers issue.? Can you locate new drivers for this?
