"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Look at the auto-protect settings for the antivirus client.

We use an exchange server, and I found that if I disabled "Internet Email Auto-Protect" and "Lotus Notes Auto-Protect" it started functioning more normally on the Windows 2000 machines.

I'll give that a try. But as a test, I had removed the auto-protect for Exchange and the systems are still experiencing the same issues.
