Add Printer does not work

Add printer wizard does not work.  I had this problem once before and cannot remember how it was fixed.  I think it was from a bad driver.  Windows XP, Sharp AR-M277 copier-printer.

Any help appreciated

This page has some very good advice on how to clean up installed printer drivers so that you can reinstall the printer and hopefully correct your problem:

you can go to the device manager and uninstall the current drivers for the printer and then reinstall them after a restart if you have the CD that came with the printer.

To access the device manager go to my computer and right click on it...then go to manage, then you will see device manager right under performance and logs.

On the list you will see all the devices in your system.  Simply navigate to the printer, uninstall it.  Then restart your computer.  Then go through the same steps again and reinstall the drivers from your CD.  If you dont have the CD you can get the device drivers from here

this should work, but post if it doesnt

None of these suugestions have helped.  I believe this all started when the printer was first installed.  The process looked like it went fine, but when you go to Printer & Faxes, no printer is listed, so there is no way to uninstall.  Server properties cannot be accessed either.  Is there a way to remove all print drivers and start over??

I would say use spybot search and deystroy, (it's free)

go to the advanced properties in it and look for the installed programs

it will list all of them  (even the ones the control panel will not show)...then look for what you want and uninstall it.

Found the answer on a different sight.  I used the command sfc /scannow from a c prompt.  I went through and scanned the sytem files when it was finished, re-booted and the Add Printer Feature was operational again.

Thanks for everyones suggestions!!!
