database RESYNC???

What is a database RESYNC?  I have two databases DEV and  PROD. All the database links, the net service names are already in place and the two databases ar communicating with each other. Some how im getting this error of ORA-00942: table or view does not exist. I know this erro occurs if we do not have the referenced table in place or a view has been referenced inplace of a table and vice-versa, or necessary privliges does not exist. I have issued " grant all on <tabele_name> to public". Some one here told to do a database resync of DEV with PROD, what does this database RESYNC mean? what is the process that needs to be followed to implement this? what does it actually do.

This DEV and PROD are not related to a primary and standby scenario, they are same databases but one is development and the other is production.

Any information will be of a great help,

Hi harris2107,

I would think the resync mentioned was to compare your production with your test database and sychronise the database objects that are different.

That message "ORA-00942: table or view does not exist" you mentioned is probably due to the structural differences in your test and production databases. For this error, you can simply check the tables/views which this SQL was checking and then check whether the table/view structures are the same.

For a complete check of the database differences, it is quite tedious and need to execute numerous SQL to do it. There are also tools like TOAD with the DBA option that can do this check with just a few clicks.
