If you are using the Import feature from the File menu, you will need to create a COL file.  A COL file allows you to apply @Formulas to your import data (@Explode, for example).  Search the Designer Help database for "col file" and you should find what you need.

What format is the import file?
Are you using the Import feature from the File menu?

Free Tool: ZipGrep

ZipGrep is a utility that can list and search zip (.war, .ear, .jar, etc) archives for text patterns, without the need to extract the archive's contents.

my temporary fix was this:  Create text field, import into text field, use translation @explode(textfield) to get it working.  There should be a better way to do this no??
