Kyocera KM-2050 Multifunction Printer: Cannot scan to workstations on domain: OPEN PORTS?
ISSUE: Receive error, "Unable to find destination PC", when trying to scan to a client computer on the domain.  Issue arises with hostname or IP addresses in source and destination address book entries.

Hello,

I have a Microsoft Small Business Server domain with 9 clients and  a Kyocera KM-2050 multifunction printer/copier/fax/scanner attached to the LAN.  I Attached a CAT5 Ethernet cable to the scanner's Ethernet port and to the router; Configured Kyocera multifunction printer for scanning on the network;  Set its IP address to 192.168.16.8; Created  entries for the client computers in the source and destination address books on the scanner; Installed Kyocera File Scanning Utility and Address Book Utility on each client computer; I can ping the scanner from the client computers; Created a folder entitled, "My Scans"  in  each user's "My Documents" folder; Configured the File Scanning Utility to direct scanned files to the "My Scans" folder;  Software properly configured but the scanner is reporting, "Unable to find destination PC"; Issue probably is that a port on each client computer's software firewall needs to be opened; No information online so I am hoping that an Expert might have already solved this issue.

Thanks in adance,

Mike

Not sure if this will help, but for Ricoh and Toshiba MFPs, we usuallly do it this way:

Add Domain name, DNS server and WINS server info to the copier.
Set up shared folders.
Create domain user for the copier with access to the shared folders, or enter seperate user-names and passwords for each user on the copier.

If you suspect it is a firewall issue, test it by disabling the firewall temporarily, if it still fails, it is not a port problem.
Most common causes: DNS or WINS  failure, incorrect permissions, wrong domain name.
Some manufacturers need you to add the MFP to the domain as a host.
You may need to enable "simple file sharing" on the client pcs.

ASKER

PROBLEM SOLVED: The solution that I discovered was that on each client computer I had to add the Kyocera's scanning program as an program exception in the Windows firewall.  After discovering this solution, I added it to a group policy in the domain and all is well.

This is extremely common.  The "Save number" in the address editor (which you should have installed on the administrators computer) should match the same number on the users computer in their Scanner File Utility.  If it does not you'll see this error message.  Sometimes it does help to completely delete the user list in the Address Editor and re-create them.  I.e. if you do not add them to the Destination or Email list, it's difficult to get them back again (actually I don't think you can do it automatically like you can at creation time).

Yes I realize this is old, but this might help somebody.

Kind regards,

A printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media. Traditional printers are being used more for special purposes, like printing photographs or artwork, and are no longer a must-have peripheral; 3D printing has become an area of intense interest, allowing the creation of physical objects. An image scanner is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image. Hand-held scanners, where the device is moved by hand, have evolved from text scanning "wands" to 3D scanners used for industrial design, reverse engineering, test and measurement, orthotics, gaming and other applications.
