Migrating from Exchange 2K to Exchange 2003
We are installing MS Exchange Server 2003 on our network. We currently have MS Exchange Server 2000. We are not upgrading the existing Exchange server, we are installing 2003 on its own machine (XCH2000 currently sits on the domain controller).
I'm reading about the adprep /forestprep commands, and they are a bit confusing to me. We just want the XCH 2003 server to run Exchange only...we want the Windows 2000 server to remain the domain controller. We already have a SQL server on the network running MS Server 2003 R2 and an HP NAS device running the proprietary version of MS Server 2003 that it comes with. Everything I'm reading seems to suggest that if you add a server with MS Server 2003 on it, to a 2000 domain, bad things can happen, or is this just about Exchange and the way Exchange uses Active Directory, looking for things that aren't there in a Server 2000 Active Directory?
So, do I run adprep /forestprep, or setup /forestprep THEN adprep /forestprep, or setup /forestprep THEN adprep /forestprep THEN adprep /domainprep?
Do I run Inetorgpersonfix.ldf or not?
None of the scenarios on the MSKB 314649 make any sense to me. How do I know which order to go?

Put the Exchange 2003 CD in to the new Exchange server and let it auto play.
Choose the option that you are doing and follow the checklist. It will tell you what to do and how to do it, in some cases it will do things for you.

And the same for setup /domainprep or adprep /domainprep.
