foxpro 2.6 "not a table/dbf" error

I have a foxpro 2.6 database, when i try and open the database, i get the "not a table/dbf" error message.  Foxpro 2.6 is running on a xp machine (with the patch applied), with no other errors except when i go and access this particular database.  I have tried to repair the dbf file to no avail, using a couple of tools available on the web (that i paid for), however this did not solve the problem for me.  I am still getting the error message.

You can open try to open the file in Excel as dbf and then save to another dbf and then create a same structure file and append the reocrds.

Tried to open the file in excel 07, however, it gives me an error, "file is in a different format than specified by the file extension".  It will still allow me to open the file, and the text import wizard starts up.
I choose delimited>space>treat consecutive delimiters as one, and the data opens, sort of.  It is all out of whack, is there an easier way to do this?  Or how do i find out what the correct file exension is?
How big is the file? I have written a utility to recover DBF files for FPW2.6.
How many KBs zipped?
VFP is sometimes able to open damaged FPW2.6 tables.
3602
3602 KBs? 3MB? Zipped?
sorry 280kb zipped
I will try to recover it for you. Send it to my nick at Hotmail.
send me the email address via email at steveb@galvestoncs.com and I will send it to you.  It's for a client and if we can get this I would be forever grateful.
I got error in trying to recovery:

Duplicate File Name.

It's way too much damaged. Do you have the file structure with the fields in the same order?
I am going to pull the original back off the machine as we have messed with this and email again.
It is showing that is has 256 fields. I believe it's damaged beyond repair.

Both the files ou have sent me are corrupt. I don't know the file structure. You need to send me a valid blank table.
Any updates on this?

Did you follow my suggestion 2 posts before? It should work!
The customer found the guy who orginally designed it.  He's not all there but refused to offer any help over the phone.  He is going to come down and fix the databases for the customer which he may end up having to start over.   Appreciate everyone's help.  I am quite relieved it's over and they have accepted the fact that they are completely lost.
Well, all I needed was the DBF header or DBF structure which is not found in the files you have sent me by email. You sent me 2 files. One has more data than the other but none have the structure.
