Automatic updates selections greyed out

I have a DC running Windows Svr 2003 SP1. I had automatic updates set to "Notify me but not automatically download..." Somehow that setting changed to where "Automatic" is selected and the settings are all greyed out, so I cannot change it back. This seemed to occur sometime during the past two weeks. Since then I have now been prompted to restart the server because updates have been installed. This morning was the second time this happened and it didn't play nice. After getting the "restart" nag message I logged of and logged in as another user who also has admin rights to the server just to see if the selections might not be greyed out - they were greyed out there too. However, when I tried to log back in the server would not even respond to the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys and after a minute or two the server restarted all by itself with users connected etc. I really need to be able to change this setting.
