How to demote DC that hosts Exchange 2000 while maintaining email functions.
Hello
I am attempting to upgrade my email system from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007. Currently Exchange 2000 is on a Window 2000 Advanced Server DC along with DNS. I have already upgraded the domain infrastructure from mixed to Windows 2000 Native as well as Exchage organization to 2000 Native. I have installed 2 windows 2003 Domain Controllers with DNS one with DHCP into the AD structure. My problem is when I demote the 2000 Exchange server via dcpormo to a member server Exchange 2000 no longer authenticates the users. I've started all of the Exchange services except exchange event. However when I dcpromo the server back to a DC Exchange works fine. How can I get the Exchange DC server to demote to a member server while running Exchange 2000 as the upgrade to 2007 requires no Windows 2000 DC on the network.
