Video Codec issue with Sony HDD cam - mpgv
I have a Sony DCR-SR100 HDD Camcorder. It records to .mpg. VLC says that it uses an mpgv codec.
ONLY VLC can view these files. I want to be able to edit these movies with Windows Moviemaker. I don't want to convert files everytime that I pull them off of the camera.
Has anyone found a codec for this for Media Player? I've googled the hell out of this.

no format to choose from. It saves them natively as these .mpg files. A little more research informs me that they are vob files with an mpg extension.

From what I have read about the specs your movies are a HD mpg2, and i-movie supports editing them.
i-movie is a quicktime format. Very nice quality too.

Ok, I've accepted that I can't edit these files right in moviemaker, however that is what I have. How about a batch video conversion tool. Aware of any?
Thanks.
Thanks.

This indirectly worked. Through video-tool.com I found the codec that Moviemaker needed to view the files.
The codec pack is "Codec Pack All-in-one"
It can be found here:

Are they saved as .MOD you can rename them to .mpg
WMM will not support .MOV you'll have to convert them to avi.
Do you have WMM 2?
