PC Anywhere Connection Problems

I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer. Both Windows XP. My desktop is at my business and my laptop is at home. I have PC Anywhere on both. I am trying to connect to my desktop computer (host) from my laptop at home (remote). I cannot do so.

The IP adresses are correct in my settings. If I bring by laptop to work and put them in the same environment and connect through the local IP address, it works. But if I bring my laptop home and try to connect to it's external IP address, it doesn't.

My ports are opened on my router at work (ports 5631 and 5632). A Symantec rep took over both of my computers and the router settings and still could not figure it out. They blame it on the router (naturally). I have a Netopia router and Bell South is my provider. I called Bell South and they said that if those ports are open, then there is nothing else that could be blocking it.

All firewalls are off (Windows Firewall) and the Antivirus is Norton (so Symenatec should know how to configure it). The antivirus is also turned off.

What could this be?????????????????? Help!!!!!!!!!

How exactly have you opened the ports on the router?  Netopia's own configuration guide for port forwarding is available at http://www.netopia.com/support/hardware/technotes/NQG_025.html - the Server Private IP Address is the IP address of the desktop machine in this case.

ASKER

It is a Netopia 3347 nwg wireless router. It has a section called "Pinholes" you set the open ports to TCP- 5631 and UDP to 5632 and then you put in the Local IP which is 192.168.1.102. Also there is a section called "Applications &  Gaming". If you choose PC Anywhere, it does the same thing.

> if the port trigerring doesn't work, try to open the dmz.

it open all ports of the router to test if your pc anywhere was working.

goodluck!
