NT4/Linux/Samba password file problem

I've recently (almost) decommissioned an old NT4 server.  The only reason it's still alive is because 'Samba' on one of my Linux servers uses it as the password server.

The passwords on the Linux accounts are not necessarily the same for the accounts on the NT4 server which Samba uses, so is there a way of importing (or doing anything with) the passwords from the NT4 server, so that Samba can use them from a file which lives on the Linux box itself?

Many thanks,
