Yes, I am able to create a normal ODBC connection or DSNs - but for some reason I am unable to set up the Oracle to point to the TNSNames.ora file

if yes, did you download the latest drivers also ?

hehe. i'm really sorry for my bad english. you know i post when i get few minutes gap at my work. sorry. i meant what is your operating system. if you've just one oracle_home, post your sqlnet.ora, haha.

anyways its not required now. because i can clearly say that your recent client upgradation didnt install the driver looks like , pls install the odbc driver for oracle from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/windows/odbc/index.html and try again.

you should select 9.2.0.8 from the selection not the 9.02 version

u say that u cannot connect to oracle and its in the tnsnames.ora ??
if yes
1. first check it the entry in the tnsnames is Correct.
2. if you have installed oracle more than one time on the computer then its possible that the tnsnames.ora used is some other tnsnames.ora than the one u have configured find all the tnsnames.ora on your compter and put the entry of ur oracle database in them and then check.

if you have ONE oracle installed (ONE TNSnames.ora) then
1. open the sqplusw and try to connect throught this to ur oracle instance, if u cannot connect. then ur tnsnames.ora do not have the correct entry.

thanks for the input - turns out that my TNSName.ora file was not in the correct filepath.  Once I changed it - it works great.
