Windows 2003 server update delay problem.

We have just restarted our server and there were 4 update patches to install. We selected to proceed with the update, and I have now been sat waiting for this to complete for the past 2 hours. We are still on update 2 of 4, and I wondered whether this was normal.
If we decide to do this at a later date, can we just reboot the server, or is this asking for trouble. We are desperate to get it operational.
Any suggestions?

Check to see if there is a window waiting for response behind the one that is open. (Click on the show desktop icon in the quick launch tool bar). If you can open the task manager check to see if anything is running. Check under the processes, performance, and networking tabs. It sounds like something is wrong to me. It should not take that long for updates. When I have had the same issue it was either a window popped up behind the one I had open waiting for a response or updates had stopped responding.

Thanks for your help, but I eventually had to give it the three fingered salute (CTRL-ALT-DEL).
It is now working OK, so I dont really know what the problem was.
If you tell me which updates I may be able to tell you what might have happened. I do updates on about 200 servers and I have seen my share of problems.  Did you try to install the updates again?
I did not try to install the updates again, as we needed the server!! Don't know how to tell you which updates had failed to install, so can't tell you which ones caused the problem.
Normally, we get asked if we wish to install any downloaded updates, but since the restart, we are not asked again.
How do we establish what updates failed, and how do we go about rfe installing them again?

Thanks for your reply.
I have checked the update history, but all was well, ie no red crosses. I have just scanned for new updates and service pack 2 has been offered.
I am downloading this now, but would expect that this ,ay take some time to apply, so wont restart the server until we have closed for business today.
Don't know what the problem was, but it seems OK now.
Your additional information was valuable, so the points are yours!
Thank you. My guess is that there was a pop up that was behind the current window that was waiting for your response.  Good Luck!
