Major DNS problem

I desperately need help.  I had to shut down my server yesterday to replace a battery backup and now it seems that the dns isn't working.  I have no idea why.  I haven't made any changes to this server.  All I did was shut it down.  I can ping from a client using the IP address but not the name.  Any ideas?

Have you checked the logs for any errors?

What gives you that impression?

Because on one of my other servers I'm running sqlserver and I was having connections problems.  It was because I had name of the server in the sql.ini (which it's been that way for years) and now I've had to put the ip address in there instead.
I got an event id of 5781 - dns server not available

What was running on the server you shut down?  What was its function?
It's running W2K server and it's for data storage.  It's the PDC and handles the DHCP, WINS, DNS.

When you shut down the PDC for the hardware replacement, did you shut it down normally?
Could you elaborate on the resolution?
