What the heck is causing this? Not my anti-virus software and not my anti-spam. Email experts please!

It isn't Exchange. Exchange doesn't scan attachments.
So it has to be something third party doing it. How do you know it isn't your AV or antispam software? That is the first and only place I would look.
Do you receive your email directly? Are you sure that it isn't happening outside of your server?

Simon.

ASKER

I've called the vendor of the anti-spam software and the vendor of the anti-virus software. Neither has this error message. We have email forwarding; however, they say it's not them either.

Actually yes. Can you send me the info you found?
It was a private area I have access to.
Apparently there is some kind of mail scanning features in the Sonicwall that scans email messages. You need to disable that. I find that most firewalls with these types of scanning options are useless anyway.

Simon.
We had this issue in our company today, and inside of the Sonicwall Firewall, under Security Services, under Gateway Antivirus, under global Settings, SMTP settings, restrict transfter of MS-Office type files containing macros VBA5 and above. If this is checked you will get this error.
Thanks grundyman0921 for your answer. It just saved us an hour trying to find the setting to disable.
