Exchange mail server unable to send to hotmail domain

I am not sure why i cant send email to any of the hot mail accounts.
here is the error message "Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

      Subject:      RE: date for your house
      Sent:      5/25/2007 8:27 PM

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

      libra507@hotmail.com on 5/27/2007 8:43 PM
            Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified.  Please retry or contact your administrator.
            <sldataedd02.ldatahou.local #4.4.7>"
when i try to telnet into the hotmail server. as soon as i type in mail from user@lateraldata.com i got disconnected from the hot mail account

Lots of things wrong...

First thing - on the PIX disable fixup SMTP.
Next - call your ISP and get them to set a reverse DNS to smtp.lateraldata.com
Then in ESM, Servers, <your server>, Protocols, SMTP. Right click on the Default SMTP VS and choose Properties. Click on the tab delivery and then advanced and enter
smtp.lateraldata.com
Don't bother with checkdns, just apply/ok out.

Could you explain #1 a little better please.
As for #2. We have a DNS host at webhostforlife as well as locally for internal people to check mail and not have to go out to the internet so i guess this is where i need to add the reverse DNS

You need a reverse DNS record for the IP address of the mail server.
This is not on your local DNS, but your ISP needs to set that.

Microsoft used to have an article on the PIX problem, but removed it. However you can see it on the archive:
