I have a wirelss ADSL modem/router.  My desktop connects to this via ethernet.   I have laptop that connects to the router wireless.  This works fine for surfing the net.

I want to be able to access the files on the desktop from the laptop over the wireless network.
How do I do this?

I'm using XP SP2 on both machines.

All you need to so is to enable sharing on the computer, and browse to it.
You will also need to make sure that they both appear in the Same workgroup.

I hope this helps !

Rememeber to turn off any firewalls during testing, and to re-enable them if needed.

Make sure that you turn on the exceptio on the windows firewall to allow file sharing.
Then try to ping the other computer on your network (in command prompt window )
Ping 192.168.0.2 where this is the ip address of the other PC

Make sure that the workgroup is the same on both the PC's make usernames and passwords the same on both machines

click start, run
type in \\192.168.0.2 (where this is the ip address of the other machine)
this will display the shared folders on the remote machine.

just a note: wireless file transfer speeds can be slow , an ethernet lan will be much faster if you are handling large files,
There may also be a setting on the wireless router to enable LAN access from the Wifi connection.
