Any reason the log says C:\WINDOWSW\ instead of C:\WINDOWS\?

ya just reinstaled windows to diff directory to start fresh...
rpggamergirl

There's an unknown notify key there.
O20 - Winlogon Notify: MCTLogon - C:\WINDOWSW\SYSTEM32\MCTLogon.dll

C:\WINDOWSW\SYSTEM32\MCTLogon.dll<-- check the properties of this file and see what it says.

Also run this scanner, SUPERAntispyware:

hey rpggamergirl, well the notify ya, ... i have topthemesxp and objectdock and windowblinds ... im pretty sure its part of objectdock to get the running tasks to show on the dock .

In any case, thank god.... lets summarize...
tried sfc.exe /scannow in start menu run... it asked for xp sp2..i had sp2 cd inserted and it said invalid cd...  so that failed
I realy really..did NOT EVER want to resintall XP...(since ive done that like 10 times now..) so really i should burn my C:\windowsw to a CD-ROM or DVD and save that for backup...

so system restore which I was hesistant to do because I set up some microsoft office stuff and didnt want to have to re-register ... coz I have both office xp and office 2007 (and need both for some reasons.. such as MSE7 ..a personal favourite :) )

system restore worked... therefore vallis gets accepted solution, thanks to all for trying I appreciate it a lot
and darn did I offer a lot of points....  i post more actively on yahoo answers than here but anyways maybe I will return the favour hehe.. peace out thanks peeps..

Did this started happening just after you installed TaskSwitchXP?
That could be conflicting with your other programs.

Disable TaskSwitchXP and see if the problem goes away.

Also fix this entry below and see if it helps, you can always put the entry back from hijackthis backup copy.
O4 - Startup: taskmgr.exe.lnk = C:\WINDOWSW\system32\taskmgr.exe

No, I added that recently for testing, because when I opened task manager the freezing would stop, but overall explorer.exe itself or something critical to windows was unstable ...
or something that controls BOTH taskmgr.exe AND whatever ALT+TAB is made by which I think kernel32.dll ... anyways

I also installed TaskSwitchXP which worked, but wasnt as likeable as the normal windows alt tab thing, although at least in my problem THAT did not crash.

Anyways thank you all for your help, it seems the problem is resolved, I will give you antispyware thing a try because I'm always open to new nice programs lothert than Ad-Aware, and Spybot.
rpggamergirl

yeah, system restore does save us the pain sometimes, I've used it a few times.
The only downside would be that, anything you installed, updates, drivers after that chosen restore point will have to be reinstalled.

Glad your problem is gone.
