better way to edit dvd files (dvd disc of SonyDcr105Camcorder) and burn again in Win Wista
Hello people! sorry for my english first of all..
One problem.I have a sony vaio with Windows Vista and a sony dvd camcorder (DCR105).
Cam is good, but there's a problem doing editing on video for this reason, i seem to understand:
It crates directly dvd (mini dvd) so program like movie maker, premiere cannot interface with it.
I tried with analog adapter usb...but sw problem with vista, bad result in quality...
A Dv cam instead, "speak" with pc in a fast way(firewire) and with the best format to edit (Dv)
No quality loss, no long step to convert..
My cam creating dvd (a compressed format,mpeg-2) oblige me to recode. But Whic is the better way??
What software i have to find? or buy?
I have to find the right compromise to teach to a not younger man, preserving quality.
1)Rip in vob files,then?
2)Rip in avi files(maybe better quality),then sw editing?
3)there's an editing sw acquires directly from dvd rom?
Thanks for all....

Thank you for ur reply...
Vista is Home Premium (good version with Windows Dvd maker and other utility...).
My mini dvd is -Rw that I finalized by camcorder, in this way i can read it in a common dvd-rom for pc (and obviously in dvd player for tv).On the dvd i can see Video e Audio_ts just a normal Dvd!
Format is MPEG2 so.....
No,i haven't a preferred format to convert to.
--RIPPING SW(step1)
I tried with dvd decrypter but it only copy vob on my hard drive.
Dvd shrink can convert in avi....ok...and so on.
But One of this that goes under Vista? and Which is the best to preserve quality, convert in avi?
--EDITING SW(step2)
After i ripped (in vob, in avi....i don't know the best...) i'll can use my simple editing software like Dvd maker , because i have something to open with! We are ok with this...
But, THERE ISN'T AN EDITING SOFTWARE THAT CAN IMPORT DIRECTLY THE WHOLE CONTENT OF MY MINIDVD,READING BY DVDROM?NO? ONLY TO AVOID STEP1.....
Thanks again, ask me if i'm not clear on my purpose...

Thank you.
There is noway to *edit* a movie straight off a disc that I know of.
It must be placed on the hdd first. You do realize that you cannot alter the contents of the disc while on the disc. Does that help you?

how big is this dvd home movie?
What is your preferred output file do you wish to change it from dvd? to??? We need to decide on this since avi only play on computers?
This being Vista is still new area for me, I am so used to dealing in xp.
Which version of Vista?
If the mini dvd is a proper dvd there is several programs that you can use to convert and shrink, very little learning here.
DVD shrink

Easy divx is a program that converts dvd to avi, quality is good as it is divx.

Virtual dub
In this guide, I will attempt to make it as easy as possible to explain how to create a VideoCD of your AVI (DivX / XviD) movie
