no. COBOL was first "invented" in 1959, and has not really a previous name...

no, it only says that FORTRAN is older, but not the precedant of COBOL.

as history of COBOL.
as from then, you have several variants of COBOL, and some efforts of the ANSI group to get standarts into the language.
