Cisco router drops then picks up connection

I  have a MAN that provides a L2 connection between three routers.
They are at,, and and are all Cisco 2021s.

For some reason the connection from to just dropped for an extended period, then picked back up of it's own volition.

I've ruled out a hardware problem, as the problems are only occurring on one route, when all of the routes take the same physical path.

What else could cause this kind of problem?

I popped in a network tap to monitor the traffic between the problem sites.

This ended up being due to a mis configured server generating huge amounts of network traffic between the two problem locations. The connection would degrade and then drop whenever the server was running.
