Hello,

I got home and my sbs 2003 had restarted ( not sure why) and both nics look as if they have been completely wiped out and replaced with new connections. If I try to use the old server local ara connection settings the machine tells me that the address is already is use and that that adapter is no longer connected to the machine. I have no idea what to do.  can anyone please help me with this?

Get rid of them, if they are valid they will return on their own accord and you can configure them.

I wish I knew what caused it though. Could a power surge cause that sort of thing?

You could be looking at a power surge ... hopefully you have a good UPS with digital power filtering attached to your server ... right? ;)

Or, if you are using non ECC memory, the OS could have hit a bad spot in the RAM.

Microsoft recently released some stats from their error detection, and memory parity errors are right up there. So, ECC is important.

I have a good APC.

How can I test the ECC?

Memory Stress Test works. Burn In Test Pro is another excellent utility for that.
