Code Page Question

Hello,
        I have Windows XP Professional.
When i open notepad -> New File, i can save a txt file with
the foll. content:

                    This is a test AlököÖ

The file is saved as ANSI encoded.

What is the default code page Notepad uses?
      Where is it configured?
When i open the same file in Visual Studio.Net 2003 Binary Editor, it does not display the characters
öÖ  and i wonder why?

My regional options is English(United States).

Any help on this would be appreciated.
        thanks
Regards,
BM

Hello
My question was : when we save that file as ANSi encoded,
                                  what code page Notepad uses?
If Notepad uses a particular codepage, how is Notepad configured to use  it?

Regards,
bm

Thanks, i have gone  through the first link:

Let me explain what i understood: Under ANSI there are  different code pages. mainly to cater to characters from 128 to 255.
so  ANSI cannot, strictly, be the default code page. It will be something like cp 1251, cp 1270 etc.?
If yes, is there any way(menu option) of know the default code page in windows XP?
     thanks for being patient
