What is your cpu
how much ram do you have
how manyy hard disks
what video card

And more importantly what is your psu's output?
Also, don't forget to check for burst or bulging capacitors.  See here for more info.

I have a P4 on my bench that was doing exactly the same thing.  When I took off the side panel and inspected the motherboard it was immediately apparent that a capacitor had burst (it was right in plain sight below the chipset).

Thank you - I know the abandoned questions are a large pain and I appreciate the time you and all the CV's put into closing them.

Just wish the Askers would stay with the darn question.
