Hi Everyone:

I am needing cd-rw drivers or firmware for an HP Pavilion 522c computer.  The information identified for this unit within the BIOS is CR-48X9TE.  Unfortunately, drivers for this unit is not loading at startup.  And, due to the fact the HDD itself on this machine is new with nothing on it, I am in a tricky situation because it need it running in order to load Windows XP.

I also have a DVD-ROM on this unit which has the exact problem.  I have requested assistance for it within a different open post.

Any help regarding this matter will be appreciated.

       Thank you

Hi Everyone:

Thanks so much for the followups to this post.  Today, I was able to make some productive progress with this pc which has been manifesting a variety of IDE issues in addition to the one described within this post.

I am happy to say this problem is now resolved.  Basically, I solved the problem in the following way.  I took the cd burner out of the pc and changed the jumper from CS or Cable Select to Master.  The logic behind this decision stemmed from the fact the cd burner was interfaced to the IDE controller of the motherboard using a standard IDE cable.  It is my understanding, which is open for correction, the jumper setting of CS (Cable Select) requires a special "cable".  Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude any IDE device (e.g. cd roms, dvd roms, rewriters, etc.) interfaced with the IDE controller on the motherboard using a standard IDE controller cable should not be jumpered to Cable Select.  But, this is mere conjecture on my part.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions and well thought out responses.
