we have just changed our internet service provider , and connect via a pretty standard router. The internet connect works fine and everyone can connect to the internet OK.
We have been provided a static IP address, but when we try to ping it from another connection, we get a time out error.
Do we need to do something to the router, to allow our IP to be visible to other users eg just ping it from another location?
Our ISP says :-
Tracing from here I can see the router is connected but rejecting ping packets due to the firewall running on it.
1. vl3.pvs-intcsr.plus.net 0.0% 12 4.3 1.1 0.5 4.3 1.3
4. ge0-0-0-22.ptn-gw1.plus.net 0.0% 12 7.8 12.0 7.3 50.0 12.3
5. gi12-0-204.ptn-ag2.plus.net 0.0% 12 9.4 9.2 8.3 12.3 1.1
It is of note that ptn-ag2.plus.net is the gateway you are connected to. The only hop which can follow ptn-ag2.plus.net is your router.
Does not mean a great deal to me!!
