trying to start the E-Mail and Internet Connection Wizard

I have a client that I am trying to start the E-Mail and Internet Connection Wizard, but when I try to start the wizard it never finishes.  This server has been up for a while, and they are now going to use Exchange for thier mail server.  I get the behavior in KB article 888817, and it matches exactly, but the cure does not work.  There are no commas.

The event log shows the error below.  I know, I could manually start Exchange by using the internet mail wizard, but I also want to use the monitoring and  reporting features that SBS gives.  When I try to start to start that wizard I get the same result.  I would really appreciate some help on this perplexing problem.

Rick

You need to look in the CEICW's actual log to see what's erroring out.  You'll find that at

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Support\icwlog.txt

Jeff,

nothing has been written toi the log since 3/17/06.

Rick
Sorry... I misread your initial question.  So, have you created any additional virtual directories in IIS?  Or are just the original defaults there?

Also, can you run any of the other wizards?  Such as Remote Access Connection?  or  the Import Files Wizard in the Internal Web Site Snapin?

Jeff

I have not created any virtual directories, just defaults.  Monitoring and reporting, configure remote access, and the import files does not work either.

Rick
Okay, then it's time to reinstall the SBS Administration Consoles:

I tried to re-install the administraton Consoles, but no luck.

The problem was DEP was not checked.  I'm not sure what DEP does, but it was casuing the problem.  The DEP is located in the properties in my computer Data Execution Prevention.  Once I checked configure Email Wizard and Internet connection, Import files wizard,  MCW module, and Smal business Server Remote Access Wizard everything was good to go.

Question why or how did they get unchecked?

Rick
They actually didn't get unchecked... DEP was triggering due to the automatic installation of Windows Server 2003 SP2, which would only happen if Small Business Server SP1 wasn't properly installed beforehand.  You need to make sure that all five components of SBS SP1 have been properly installed.

Directions for that are at http://sbsurl.com/sp1

Jeff

SP1 was installed on the system, it came with it and it was a clean install.
