3d drawing from autocad to illustrator

Trying to get a 3d autocad drawing with filename extension of dwg into adobe illustrator.  Does anyone know how to do this or if it can be done?

Mmmm, i though Illustrator was supporting dwg files...I found info's about Illustrator 10 and it should be dwg compatible. Features from the latest Illustrator CS3 clearly states its compatibility with dwg's.

Or create a dxf file from your dwg and try with this one.
You can always setup an EPS plotter and plot to EPS, then import.

Yeah it is but I'm having trouble with a 3d drawing.
What version of Illustrator is used? I found that there is a patch available to fix issues with reading dxf/dwg for Illustrator 10.

Have you tried importing a .dxf or .eps instead of a .dwg?

Also, have you tried with a dwg 'saved as' an earlier version of acad like R2000 or R14?
