Training for resolving Desktop issues

I am a Help Desk operator and try to resolve customer problems before they are sent on to anylists to resolve. I don't have a lot of expertise in the computer world and would like to gain a better understanding of how to resolve desktop issues.
Do you have any recommendations as to what type of training would help me the most to have better troubleshooting skills?
I thought about taking an A+ class, but am not sure if there is something out there that would be more appropriate.
