I am trying to install the latest version of ruby on my Mac (OS X 10.4.9). &nbsp;The ./configure part of the install is not working for me, so I would try it as root. &nbsp;I cannot authenticate as such. &nbsp;I cannot even set the root password with &quot;passwd root&quot; or &quot;passwd su&quot;. &nbsp;I can enter my passwd then the first iteration of the new root password, and after the second iteration ends-up in a &quot;sorry&quot;.<br />

Set root/su password?

Hello,

I am trying to install the latest version of ruby on my Mac (OS X 10.4.9).  The ./configure part of the install is not working for me, so I would try it as root.  I cannot authenticate as such.  I cannot even set the root password with "passwd root" or "passwd su".  I can enter my passwd then the first iteration of the new root password, and after the second iteration ends-up in a "sorry".

Any ideas?
