Windows 2003 Standard Server R2 - SP2 - HP DL380 G5 - out of resources - No remote desktop
We have a number of HP 380 G5 server with 2GB of RAM running Windows 2003 server, standard edition R2, service pack 2 that gets into a state where it starts returning out of resource messages to applications running on it.
There are 3 main application types running:
1. Sybase ASE 12.5
2. Backup Exec
3. A few custom written Powerbuilder applications.
The Sybase ASE and Powerbuilder apps are running totally without issue on older NT 4 and Win2000 boxes, but since putting them on Win 2003 they start returning out of resource messages to Sybase. Remote desktop winds up kicking us out and we are then unable to reconnect. The only way out is by hitting the power button on the server.
Help!
I've been monitoring a number of threads for all processes as well as handles and cannot see any patterns.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi there,
Nothing in the eventvwr logs.
Symptoms include getting 10038 errors from Sybase when it is asking for something from the o/s. We get millions of lines of os 10038 errors then rdp kicks us out and needs a power switch reboot.
Thanks for your help!

Is a Proliant Support Pack installed on the servers ?
If so, try uninstalling all the HP software (System Management Homepage, Server agents ...)
If the problem disappears, you might want to upgrade your firmwares and install the latest version of the PSP.

Solution:
- upgraded the SAT/SATA driver to the latest
- removed teaming on 2 network ports. Disabled one and enabled just the 1.
- upgraded firmware for NC373i network ports
- upgraded network driver to 3.4.10.
Still having issue with tcpip keepalive not working but at least the server is not bluescreening or running out of resources.
