able to add users to domain but unable to log into computers with the account

I have a Windows 2k3 server and when I add users to the domain they add fine but when I add them to their computer as local Admin ( They need it for certain apps)  I don't see their name listed in the domain users list and if I try to log onto the Domain as the user I get a message saying that My password or domain is incorrect. Any idea on how to get by this

Sounds like you need a complex password when you initially setup the account.

Change one of these account's passwords to P@ssw0rd1 and see if you can log in.

This was never a problem with any other user added to the server I can add them fine but when going to add them as local admin if I click advanced and find now to see the entire users list their account is not listed

Ah, I see what you're saying now - we have this exact issue.  It's all about replication.

Try this:

On the Administrators group (locally), right click it and select Add Member.  See if you can add them this time.

Tried and I get the same thing it does not recognize the user name and if I go to look at the list their user name is not listed but I can see the user name in AD just fine

Is the workstation in the doman?  What OS are you running on the WS?  Sounds like that the WS isn't in the domain or that it lost its domain credentials.  If it is suppose to be in the domain you might want to take it out of the domain, then re-add it.

Yes the workstation is on the Domain. The WS is running winXP SP2. This is the second user account having this problem. and I cannot add the user to any WS in the office.

Can you see other users in the domain on the workstation(s) in question?  Do they have problems trying to log in at this workstation(s)?  Just trying to figure out if this is a workstation issue or a user object issue.

I can add other users to the WS just fine with no problems its just the 2 user accounts created recently that are having the trouble I was able to get one of them logged in but after running updates and the computer rebooting I could no longer log in as that user

Can you add either or both of these users to other workstations?

Can you get to the DC's and check to ensure that you see the 2 users in ADUC?  Kind of leading to a possible replication issue that Netman66 stated above.  If there is DC or 2 that doesn't show the users, then there is definitely a replication issue.  You can use replmon on the DC's to see is replication is occurring.  (I actually like the command line repadmin /showreps /all since you'll see both inbound and outbound replication rather than only inbound that you see with replmon.)  BTW, there will be errors in the system log of the DC's if you are having replication issues.  These might help you determine if there is a network issue.

You were correct looked to be a replication issue between our new primary DC and an OLD DC that someone forgot to turn off
