server.execute-asp2.0?

Server.execute is showing the literal instead of the asp (html).  It's shoing index.html instead of what's in index.html. I understand you must use asp 2.0 but I have no idea how to see what level my asp is and how to get asp 2.0 functioning on the laptop (localhost).  Please help.

installed asp.net 2.0
from the command prompt put in the path c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727
then aspnet_regiis.exe -i
then tried  aspnet_regiis.exe -r
index.txt is showing up and not the contents of index.txt
server.execute is still showing the literal instead of the asp (html)

looked back through the history of xp pro and  iis, there was a scenero that speaks about iis and asp.net_regiis.exe -r  and local host
since this didn't help my situation, should I uninstall .net and asp.2.0 start over adding IIS, then install .net, then install asp.2.0 in this order , to try to remedy my server.execute problem?  I have lost confidence in what to do next.

Have you added your application to your IIS? This shouldn't matter if you are running it from your IDE, VS 2005 or one of the express versions. Make sure you have code running from your codebehind or from a tag within the page that looks like this:
<script runat="server">

//your asp.net 2.0 code goes here

</script>

or in server tags like this

<%= Response.Write("Hello World")%>

This code works on every laptop and server we have - it's just this one laptop.
It's missing something (and it's not asp 2.0) that we can't figure out, so it's not interpreting server.execute results - it's putting the literal.

I did notice that when I right click the virtual directory and look at properties, this web site is missing the tabs "Server Extensions" and "ASP.NET".

Is that the clue of what we are missing?

does it work when you try to run it from an IDE?

We're using Front Page and it keeps going through trying to install every time it starts up (although it is a legal copy).    I'll reinstall it.  Could that be causing this?

I'm sorry but I don't use frontpage EVER for web development, microsoft really set a fire with that program in terms legitimate web development; so I can't help with that part.

found dumb error on our part - there was a space in the data field that server.execute was executing :)
Since we appreciate all attempts, we will split the points.
