Text Cursor moves / jumps around while typing

The owner of my company is complaining that when he types on his laptop sometimes the cursor jumps around and what he is typing gets all messed up. For example:

If we was trying to type
The brown dog jumped over the white fence

it might come out as
The brdog jumped over the white fenceown

It seems to be possible related to either accidentally hitting the touchpod or maybe the touchpad is going bad but he says it only happens in word and outlook, and of course it only started happening after a windows update was run...

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of issue, I could only find one similar post and it was abandoned.

Thanks

does he have a touchpad that needs to be disabled while typing?
I just encountered a similar issue earlier this week. The keyboard was faulty and was "flexing" when the user typed. In this particular instance when the user was in Outlook emails would "magically" move themselves to the Deleted Items, Tasks would be deleted, etc. The keyboard was worn to the point that when the user moved their hands in a certain way arrow keys were activated, scroll functions were performed etc.
Also, as JW mentioned...the touchpad. If it's not used disabling it will not hurt anything.

There is a touchpad but the touchpad is used for navigation, they do not use a mouse.
It is a sony vaio and I could not find where to disable the touchpad or change it's sensitivity.
Can you replace the whole top part of a laptop? Like replace the keyboard, touchpad part?
What's the model number?
of the laptop.

Is there spill on keyboard? If not, keyboard was faulty. But try to re-install O.S first.
I have a client with exact same issue.
The client swears that even when he doesn't touch the trackpad, the cursor moves and selects things.
