Cannot install, update or uninstall Quicktime on Vista PC

Am having a horrid time installing Itunes on a Vista Business PC. The Quicktime installation fails and I get the message "The installer encountered errors before the requested operations for QuickTime could be completed". So I've tried updating and then uninstalling Quicktime which is already installed on the PC, but both fail.  I've tried removing QT using Control panel but this fails.  I've tried running the progs as administrator.

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

Hello MichaelSacher,

Try to uninstall it completely first via the windows explorer (uninstall programs).
After that go into the registry and delete the quicktime keys.
Download the lastest version and try installing it, does this work?

Hi suppsaws,

Sorry - what do you mean by "via the windows explorer"?

Thanks.

when you go to the windows explorer (the application that opens when you click on the 'my computer' icon) you will see a button at the top 'add-remove programs'.
the windows explorer is the shell where you see all your drives etc

Sorry - I had just forgotten that there is an ininstall program link on the explorer page.

Anyhow, I've done that and again, it runs through the uninstall routine but the app is still there (including in the "uninstall programs" listing) afterwards.  Something is preventing the program from being updated or uninstalled.

Thanks.

That's great and worked, thanks.  But I'm still having problems having reinstalled Itunes + Quicktime.  Itunes crashes when I try to run it and QT gives me a "buffer overrun detected" error when I try to open it!

Thanks.

I think that this must be a Vista compatibility issue.  Cannot think what else to try to resolve this.

Thanks again.
