Hi...i have a problem with small business server 2003.  Every 2 or 3 days the every users outlook reports as being "disconnected" from exchange.  When i try and log in with outlook web access, the login ion page appears, i enter my username and password but i get the following message "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable"... i then re run the sbs wizard and also restart IIS, WWW etc but to no avail...the only thing that fixes it is a reboot of the server...any ideas???

What is in the event log, and what is your hard drive space like?

503 unavailable will happen if the store is dismounted, but either way, it will be in the logs.

>>in my wisdom, i decided to clear the logs b4 i rebooted it so i could see exactly what was going on

This will teach you to save them before clearing them next time :)
Problem arose again today....i have posted the last few days of the event log below...

<<removed by -red>>
no-one is going to sift through thousands of event logs, so pick out the relevant failures and give us those.

If you are going to post the full event, then don't post any more than say the top 5.

Sorry!!

i have now pasted the last few relevant lines

there was a huge amount of entries referring to a problem with backup exec.....not sure if this had a bearing..

Does the store mount itself automatically again after that, or do you have to reboot?

Do you have anti-virus on that server?

Have you messed with the Transaction logs at all?
the store does not mount automatically but after looking at these logs, i simply mounted the stores maulally and all was well... i have nod32 AV on that server ( as i do on another 50 servers all configured the same way!) i did however today exclude the exchsrvr folder form any scanning....with regards to the transactions logs..i would not even know how!  i am running Veritas Backup exec for sbs ver 10...this would be configured to do backup exchange as well..this might be doing something to the logs...as u can see from the initial posting of logs, there are a lot of vertias errors happening around this time as well...

>>i did however today exclude the exchsrvr folder form any scanning

That is what I was driving at by asking about AV.

What I expect is happening is as follows, Backup Exec tries to do a backup, as it is a full backup it is going to flush the transaction logs, but when it tries to access them, NOD gets it's panties in a bind and stop it - making Exchange stop the store as a precaution, making backup exec fail.

I don't know how close to accurate that really is - I am just filling in the gaps of NOD breaking it and BE looking like it is involved.

I am 100% certain though that NOD is the cause of the problem - file system anti-virus is pointless on an exchange server, but if you are going to have it, you MUST exclude the exchange directories.

i will know in the next few days!  thanks for ur help so far..i appreciate it...

ger
Hi this problem has occurred again.... i can confirm that nod is not scanning theexchange folder.  i have even stopped veritas from backing up the exchange (currently doint it manually)

any further ideas?

i uninstalled nod and while a "version" of the problem has happened a couple of times, not nearly as often as before.  i think the most recent ones were down to the store exceeding the default limit set in sbs
