WiFi says I'm connected but can't connect to the internet

I have a Dell Wireless WLAN card. The other day my laptop ran out of battery. Today when I started it and it says that I'm getting a wireless signal here at my hotel but when I bring up my web browser it doesn't do anything...I get the page cannot be displayed.

Is this a free wireless access point in the hotel? If not, you can only connect from the laptop you paid from...

Hi,
Being connected does not guarantee access to the the internet. Specially if in a hotel, follow the hotel's instructions on what web pages are available to you free. Typically you would have to pay a charge first to browse the rest of the internet freely.

HTH.

It's free here at the hotel.

Can you do a "ipconfig /all" at the command prompt of each laptop and notice if there are any significant differences (apart from the ip address of course)?

I don't see anything significant. I drove to the days in and was able to pick up their signal but could not get on of course without a userid/password. When I got back to my hotel I'm still not able to get on the internet even though it's picking up a signal. On my other laptop...it's working just fine.
