We have Team Foundation Server that needs to have service pack 1 applied to it, but the SQL Server 2005 currently does not have any service packs applied.
I need to know what is the best upgrade path to take to finally have TFS @ sp1 and SQL Server 2005 @ sp2.
1. Will TFS sp1 require SQL Server 2005 to have at least service pack 1 applied before successfully installing? E.g. will TFS complain if SQL Server doesn't have a service pack!
OR
2. Can I install TFS sp1 and then apply SQL Server 2005 sp2?

What is the best approach to upgrade please?

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=928957

TFS is not dependent on SQL SP installation.

Hi Patrikt,
Thanks for the quick response.
I've checked out the link to the MS Support KB, but can't find where it says:

"TFS is not dependent on an SQL SP".

Can you indicate where in the attached link it says or implies this comment please.
Excuse me for my caution but I need to get this right on the 1st attempt!

If this comment is true then does that mean that it would be OK to upgrade SQL to SP2 and then upgrade TFS to SP1 afterwards without incidences?

Cheers...

The MS notes are written in positive way only so you will not find "Not dependent on" statement. Just check Requirements section and find no sql there.
As TFS can run on any SP of SQL I suggest to update it first and than do SQL.
