How to plug an IDE cable from a motherboard to a laptop's Hard drive

Hi, I need to retrieve information from a laptop drive, a FUJITSU MHT2030AT. I already have the cable, a CABLEPLUS E96118, with one end that goes in the laptop HD and the other side on a desktop's motherboard.

The thing is, I heard that if I plug it with the wrong pins, it can ruin my HD, because there are black and red wires on the side of the cable that plugs on the laptop HD to provide power so I need pin information, but I can't find it on the internet.

You need to id correct the Pin 1 that used to be marked red or black. See the link:

The laptop does not require power since it gets it directly via the IDE connector.

You just need to make sure that you have pin 1 on the connector to pin1 on the  hard drive for both cables.

Red stripe on IDE cable is normally pin 1

I hope this helps !

Hi,

Also, the rows of pins on bothe the hard drive and cable  are usually keyed.  Look at your drive and cable to see if you can find a pin that's missing in the center of the row of pins.

Good Luck,
