Exchange SP2 allows for the databases to reach a maximum size of 72GB.  In order to increase the size however you have to edit a couple of registry keys.  Below is a link that will walk you through what keys to edit.  Once you do that you're up and running.

Sorry, a bit hasty there!  After upgrading, check out this MS article:

With SP2, the limit is 18GB, and can be upgraded.  If you are hitting a 16GB limit, then you do not have SP2 at all.

I'm downloading Exchange SP2, is it pretty straight forward?

Pretty much, once you download and extract it, just run \E3SP2ENG\setup\i386\update.exe

It is straight forward to setup, but I thought you said SP2 was already installed.  You can check by opening the Exchange System Manager and drill down to ->Administrative Groups -> First Administrative Group -> Servers ; then right click your server and go to the properties.  You will be able tell what SP is installed.

Turns out to be Service Pack1.  I'll apply service pack 2 and go from there, I looked in the wrong place for the service pack level.
