what is the best practice for SNMP Service trap destination?

i am going to install Dell's IT Assistant, and part of the features require SNMP traps.  i want to configure the SNMP traps, but i am not sure what location is best as the trap destination.

You're going to use the local IP address, but more than just destination you have other considerations regarding SNMP Security that should be taken.

See and for a good overview.

yes, i have done the security part.

i just wasn't sure about the trap destination.

i plan to run IT Assistant from another computer.  i have that computer set up in the SNMP of this new server.  IT Assistant will use the traps for reporting...
so do i want to use the server localhost, or the computer running the IT Assistant?

    Accepted Solution

You want to have the destination set to wherever the software is running that will be using the SNMP Trap.
