FTP error

I have setup an FTP server using IIS and opened the port 21 on my linksys firewall.  the windows firewall is not running.  I cannot connect to the ftp server using the external ip.  whenever i try to connect i get FTP folder error: The FTP session was terminated.  I have tried using the internal ip of the server and managed to connect to it without any issues.  but when i change the IP in IIS to the external IP i cannot connect

Hi

Oops only meant to show you the Linksys screen, but as you have Guild up and running, have a look at the directory mapping, there should be a Home, list and recursive setting for the directory per user, this may be the issue.

You need to open a control port on your fw too. Best set your Server to PASV mode and use the port range as per your FTPserver documentation. Or you could use PORT and open 20 as well on the firewall.

Hi pkenforcer

What make of FTPserver are you using, you will need to follow the instructions for seting up PASV in the documentation, if you let me know what make it is I can help you find these.

Best wishes

Hi,
I have followed the instruction from the KB. Now when i try connection i get an error indicating connection with the server could not be established.  I have opened the necessary ports on the router and have restarted the IIS service.

Help!!

Hi
I am traveling at the moment so apologies for the delayed replies.

How is the router setup to find the server, you will need to 'tell' the router how to handle the request on port 21, you may have to setup a static route, also if you connect to a PASv server your client needs to be set to PASV too, if you use IE set the PASV option from the IE tools advanced menu.

You may find this link helpful:

This explains how to setup the routing for your port range, it may look different depending what router you have though
