Excel Data Only - Column width not resizing

I am having an export issue with Crystal XI Release 2. I am exporting Excel 97-2000 - Data only (XLS). I am attempting to use the "Column width based on objects in the: " option - but it does not seem to have any effect. When the excel file is opened, all columns are the same size, and data in some of the columns appear truncated (I realize they are not actually truncated - the column width is hiding some).

Is there an issue with using this setting, or am I wrong in assuming that the columns should be resized in the export file.

Thanks in advance,

Just a confirmation that this is also the behavior I've seen (in all XI versions, not just R2).

    I agree.

The option to size column width based on objects *does* work when you do the normal export to Excel.  It does not work when doing the data-only export.

It should be possible to take care of this in code (using excel's object model) as a post-processing step after the export.

Thanks for the confirmation, too bad whoever owns Crystal this week couldn't document this somewhere. In regard to IdoMillet's suggestion to use excel, do you have a code snippet available?

No code available.  I'm considering implementing this in my Visual CUT application.

An easy way to get the code snippet in excel.  Record a macro doing the column width setting and then look at the macro

When you exported from crystal to excel, did you select the 'Export object formatting' under the Column width based on object in the Details? This will get rid of any spaces that would cause an extra column to be added.

Just a note that Visual CUT now has an "XLS_AutoFit:True" option to provide an auto fit of column widths for Excel Data Only exports.
