W2k Folder Permissions

I have a Windows 2000 server SP4, The problem is with people copying files to the server from XP Pro workstaiton, they can add the file to the server but when they go back to access the file they get denied. When we check the security permissions their group is not added to the file they just added. The folder has their group listed with the correct permissions. This happens intermittantly as some times the permmission will be added correctly.

Check to make sure the permissions their group has on the folder isn't just "This folder only" but "This folder, subfolders, and files.". You can find this in the Advanced Security screen.

I check the setting and it has the  "This folder, subfolders, and files.".
What is strange is that it happens intermittantly. They add new files and once in a while their rights are not on the file even thro they create and added the file to the folder.

Does it happen to any one specific person? You may want to check the "CREATOR OWNER" permissions on that folder. Whenever a user (with write permissions) creates a file, the file gets those rights applied to it.
