Domino Licensing for BES

I am in the process of implementing a BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Domino, but I'm confused by the documented system requirements.

Presently, we have a production 6.5.5 Domino server (Windows 2003 Server) with a data partition (server is not partitioned into multiple instances of Domino).

Questions:
1) Can I install BES directly onto the existing Domino server?.
2) Should the Domino server for BES be a second Domnio box, and if so, what Domino licensing do I need (e.g. is it per BlackBerry user, etc.).
3) The installation manual indicates not to install BES on a partitioned Domino server.  By "partitioned", do they mean no "driv"e partitions, or no "Domino" partitions?

Thank you

1) YES

2) For over 15 users probably a second box would be best.

3) They mean  "Domino" partitions

I hope this helps !

In addition I would talk to you Blackberry Vendor to see if you can wangle the BES server and CAL Licenses out of them for any group purchase of Blackberrires.

Saves a lot of $

 I hope this helps !

SysExpert,

Thank you very much for the helpful information!

Do you know if the servers can be mixed versions (e.g. Domino Messaging Server v7 on the BES, and Domino Enterprise v6.5.5 on the production email server)?

Thanks

Sounds like you might be using an old version of BES.  If I recall correctly, BES 2.x required installation opn a Domino server, but BES 4.x installs on a Notes client, though it CAN work on a Domino server, BUT no version works with a PARTITIONED Domino server, which means multiple Domino on one Windows server.  You clearly don't have a partition problem.

For best results, the BES server should have a verison number AT LEAST as high as the mail server.

:qwaletee, I would double check. AFAIK, 4.x still requires a DOMINO Server for full functionality.
